St. Nicholas Church, year 1729. Patrimony number 1188. Monument of national importance. Located in: Rokhatyn city, St. Nicholas Street.
In 1729, the current wooden church was built in the style of popular Galician architecture, located on a picturesque hill from which you can see all of Rokhatyn – the city of the legendary Roksolana.
The entrances to the shrine are very original – from the north, they lead to the narthex and the altar, which is explained by the fact that the church is located on the steep slope of the mountain. Inside there is a five-level pyramidal iconostasis dating from the mid-19th century, whose icons were redrawn in the mid-20th century. It was then that murals were painted with oil paintings depicting evangelical scenes. Before 1922, the roof shingle was replaced with galvanized sheet metal, due to which the sacred aspect of the building lost some of its original colors. During the war, in 1944, the part of the church where the altar was located was destroyed by a German bomb. After the war, the church was restored and consecrated on May 30, 1954.
Next to the church of St. Nicholas rises the wooden bell tower with three levels, and at a short distance is the Jewish and the Christian cemetery with old original tombstones.
