“Ion Irimescu” Art Museum Fălticeni, code SV-II-m-B-05536, a public forum monument of international importance from Fălticeni municipality, Mihai Eminescu Street, no. 2. The most important museum of fine arts in Romania, founded in 1991 and dedicated to a single author, is considered by specialists to be the second most important sculptor in Romania, after Constantin Brâncuși.
Ion Irimescu’s sculptural art evolved from the neoclassical style, influenced by expressionism, to a geometrization of forms (in the manner of Constantin Brâncuși), then to a stylization of them, especially in the field of bronze sculptures.
In the 20 rooms of the museum are exhibited, according to the instructions of the master, about 300 sculptures and about 1000 drawings: portraits, compositions; monument projects made in the technique of ronde-bosse or other reliefs, in stone, wood, marble, bronze, terracotta, plaster or plasticine; graphic works.
The most spectacular sculptures on the museum’s ground floor are the following: “Bacanta”, “Maternity”, “Peasant”, “Pegasus and Apollo”, “Africa 1 and 2”, “Icarus”, “Faun”, “Sapho”.
Upstairs, the sculptures of “Xenia”, “The Man with the Golden Bird”, “Elegia”, “The Centaur with the Pound”, “Orpheus”, “Pegasus and Apollo”, the “Annunciation”, the “Pietà” relief, the bas-relief “Restfulness”, and a symbolic representation of the map of Greater Romania.
The most emblematic sculptures of the artist are, in the opinion of specialists, “Mother and child”, “Self-portrait”, “Girl playing the mandolin”, “Maternal love”, “Elegy”.
As additional elements of tourist attraction, we mention the “Ion Irimescu” memorial space, located in an adjacent perimeter inside the museum.
