Humor Monastery, code SV-II-a-A-05570. A monument of international value dedicated to St. George (April 23) and the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (August 15), located in Mănăstirea Humorului (61 km from Suceava, 37.2 km from Câmpulung Moldovenesc).
“Pearl of world Christian iconography” (academician Sorin Dumitrescu), currently a nunnery.
It was built in 1530 by the great chancellor Toader Bubuiog (Boboiog), son-in-law of the great chancellor Ioan Tăutu (the church of St. Nicholas in Bălinești).
The church has a triconch plan, close to that of the Putna monastery, with a porch, narthex, the tomb room (above which is the treasure room = mystery), nave and altar.
The architects of this church consciously or unconsciously used the “golden section” or “golden number” (φ 1.618033) – the ratio between the dimensions of a piece of art or architecture, in its construction (field observations and measurements made by Adriana Balaban Bara).
The iconostasis of the church is one of the oldest (16th century) and most beautiful in Romania, being made of carved and gilded wood of sycamore and maple.
