Jablonowski family castle and palace, 17th-18th centuries. Patrimony number 484. Monument of local value. Located in Mariampil town, Halych county.
The castle was built in 1691, not far from Mount Zamka. At its foot flows a spring whose water has healing properties.
Unlike other fortresses in western Ukraine, Mariampil Castle is not known to the general public. It was built by Polish crown hetman Stanisław Jan Jabłonowski. Once, on the place where this family castle is located, in the 12th-15th centuries, there was the old Russian settlement Ciortopil. The fortress occupies an area of 200 by 150 meters. The thickness of the walls reached 2-3 meters. The castle had two entrance gates, the garrison barracks, a dwelling house.
In the 18th-19th centuries, most of the defense fortifications were demolished, the construction material being used to build the new palace.
The ruins of the rebuilt castle are still preserved. Near its main entrance grows a huge 600-year-old oak, and behind the building there is a dendrological park with old trees of different species.
