Saint Michael the Archangel Church, 15th-16th centuries. Patrimony number 1194. Monument of national importance. It is located in Chesnyky, Rokhatyn county.
Researchers propose various data on the foundation of the place – from the 12th century to the 18th century. The construction is located on a mountain that dominates the landscape of the locality. Archaeologists admit that the church could have been built, as was often the case at the time, on the foundation of an ancient pagan sanctuary.
The original architecture of the building has very few similarities in Ukraine. The church is surrounded on all sides by massive stone buttresses. Inside there is an iconostasis from the 18th century. The narthex floor is covered with square stone slabs. The church is a unique model of fortified stone buildings of the 16th century, which has been preserved almost unchanged to this day.
