Famous People Gallery from Fălticeni, code SV-II-m-B-05545, a monument of the public forum of national importance in Fălticeni municipality (24 km from Suceava), located on Sucevei Street, no. 95.
The city of Fălticeni is labelled in the consciousness of the Romanian public as “Florence of Romania” and “Little Weimar” due to the large number of cultural and scientific personalities who have worked in this place. From a statistical point of view, Fălticeni is the third city in Romania (after Bucharest and Iași), in terms of the number of scholars and artists, concerning the number of inhabitants.
The Gallery is a unique memorial museum in Romania, established on the 16th of June 1972, located in a house built in 1850.
The museum has seven sumptuous rooms in which are exhibited paintings, photographs, busts, manuscripts, letters, books on the life and work of over 50 cultural and scientific personalities from Fălticeni. Ordinary visitors or specialists capture in this museum significant aspects of the cultural life of the city of Fălticeni (the activity of schools, the local press, cultural associations and societies that functioned here, especially in the interwar period).
Within the museum, there is also a Romanian-American Cultural Centre, financed by Professor Eliot Sorel, an American citizen that was born in Fălticeni.
